Growing Jewellery
This series of work developed in 2010 as part of the Growing Jewellery Project. A series of works were created that housed grass seed pods, which sprouted and grew when watered and cared for. The silver components are made from 100% recycled metal and the rest of the work is safely biodegradable, following cradle-to-cradle design principles. The wearer forms a relationship with the work through intimate daily interactions of care such as watering, trimming, positioning in sunlight and and wearing. When the jewellery is worn, is acts as a signifier for the broader environment and becomes a catalyst that starts conversation and dialogue. The work has been revisited multiple times for different wearers, venues and activities. Different plants have been experimented with and new ways of engaging audiences through use and wear have been trialled.
